Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas, and I wish you all a Happy New Year. Our next meeting will be Monday, January 5^TH at Bill Magyar’s house. Food will be served at 7:00, and the meeting will begin at 7:30 PM. Stick around after the meeting to watch the Fiesta Bowl.

We have made it through the first half of the fraternal year, and have another busy slate ahead of us as we finish the year. Here is a quick summary of our upcoming activities in the month of January:

1^st Degree 1/20/09 – We are hosting a 1^st Degree at our 1/20/09 meeting. Note that due to Martin Luther King Day, our degree/meeting will be on Tuesday that week, not Monday. We will be in a classroom in the new RE building instead of the PLC. We have several candidates we are hoping to join us that night: Joe Losurdo, Mark Stanley, Jose Perez, and Joe Shaginaw. I am asking that the Degree Team be at the Church by 6:30 PM, candidates by 7:00 PM in jacket and tie, and everyone else by 7:15 PM. We plan on beginning the meeting and degree at 7:30 PM. If you have someone you recruiting to join, please drop off a completed form 100 before the 20^th. We can read them in that night.
District Grand Knights Meeting 1/10/09: There is a District Grand Knights meeting on 1/10 at Notre Dame Academy. The meeting is for the Grand Knight, Deputy Grand Knight, and Financial Secretary.
RSVP Donut Sales 1/11/09 – We will be selling donuts after the morning masses on 1/11/09 to help support our RSVP program. If you have not heard, we have selected Ryan and Ronald Conklin, sons of St. Benedict parishioners, as our seminarians this year. Please plan on helping out after mass.
Retreat at Ignatius House 1/16 – 1/17/09 -- Be renewed physically, mentally & spiritually on the Knights of Columbus Men's Silent Retreat January 16-18, 2009. Held at the Jesuit Retreat Center Ignatius House on the banks of the Chattahoochee River in Atlanta, this retreat starts at 6pm on Friday, January 16, 2009 and ends with Mass & lunch on Sunday, January 18, 2009. Retreat from the noise of the busy daily world and spend some quiet time with God. A private room with private bath and all meals are provided. 2^nd Degree 1/17/09 – There is a 2^nd Degree at All Saints at All Saints Catholic Church (http://www.allsaintscatholicchurch.org/) in the Social Hall next to the Church. Candidates are to arrive at 9 AM, observers by 9:30 AM, and the Degree will start at 10 AM. Dress code is coat and tie for everyone. All 1st Degree members are encouraged to plan to attend. At this time we do not have a 2^nd Degree Team in our district, and I am unsure when the next on in our area will be. Also, we will need a member of our Council to escort our members to the Degree. If you are available, please let me know.
3^rd Degree 1/31/09 – There is a 3rd Degree on 1/31 at St. Monica Catholic Church (http://www.saintmonicas.com/) in Lyke Hall. Candidates are to arrive at 9 AM, observers by 9:30 AM, and the Degree will start at 10 AM. Dress code is coat and tie for everyone. Also, we will need a member of our Council to escort our members to the Degree. If you are available, please let me know.
Free Throw Competition date TBD – We will be having our Council Free Throw Competition in January as well. If you are interested in helping Ken Brooke ( k2brooke@yahoo.com) plan this event, please let us know.
Keep Christ in Christmas Car Magnets – We had a very successful campaign this year, due in large part to the hard work of Vince Pusateri. If you took magnets to sell on your own, and have not done so already, please turn the money and remaining magnets to Vince ASAP so we can provide a final accounting.

And that is just in January. But there are also several events in February and March we need to start planning.

Southern Catholic lecture 2/5/09 – On 2/5/09 Dr. Jeremiah Ascroft, president of Southern Catholic College, will be coming to St. Benedict to talk about Trends in Catholic Higher Education. Jim Cartella is coordinating the night, and it will be open to the parish community.

Mardi Gras 2/21/09 – We will be helping out with food and drinks at Mardi Gras event. Ang Sampona will be providing more details shortly and looking for volunteers. Please mark this on your calendar.
Fish Fry 2/27, 3/6, 3/13, 3/20, 3/27 – Can you believe we are less than 2 months from the first Fish Fry? Nick and I will be co-chairing again this year. I will be contacting US Foods after the 1^st of the year for the prices, and will start calculating our first order. Please mark these dates on your calendar, and start thinking about which week(s) you will be able to help out.
