Brother Knights,

Our next meeting is next Tuesday, January 20 (since Monday is MLK Day).  We are also hosting a 1^st Degree this night, and are expecting 5 new members to our Council:  Jose Perez, Joe Lorurdo, James Barket, Joe Shaginaw, and Mark Stanley.  We are asking the degree team to be there at 6:30, candidates to be there by 7:00, and the meeting will start at 7:30.  The meeting will be in rooms 6&8 and the antechamber will be room 3 or 4.  If there is somebody who is interested in joining, you can bring them Tuesday and we will read their form 100 in right before the Degree. 

Thank you to everyone who helped out with the RSVP Donut sales last weekend, especially Mike Foutch who worked all morning and Mike Stapleton who wrote the nice pulpit announcement letting everyone know that we have selected Ryan and Ronald Conklin to support this year.

We have set a date for the Flag Retirement Ceremony for 3/29/09 after the 12:30 Mass.  Bob Zopf has agreed to help coordinate with the 4^th Degree Team and the Boy Scouts to plan this.  More information will follow closer to the event, but please mark this on your calendar.

Here is a quick summary of our other upcoming activities:

1. 2^nd Degree 1/17/09 – There is a 2^nd Degree at All Saints at All Saints Catholic Church (http://www.allsaintscatholicchurch.org/) in the Social Hall next to the Church.  Candidates are to arrive at 9 AM, observers by 9:30 AM, and the Degree will start at 10 AM. Dress code is coat and tie for everyone.  All 1st Degree members are encouraged to plan to attend.  At this time we do not have a 2^nd Degree Team in our district, and I am unsure when the next on in our area will be.  Also, we will need a member of our Council to escort our members to the Degree.  If you are available, please let me know.
2. 3^rd Degree 1/31/09 – There is a 3rd Degree on 1/31 at St. Monica Catholic Church (http://www.saintmonicas.com/) in Lyke Hall.  Candidates are to arrive at 9 AM, observers by 9:30 AM, and the Degree will start at 10 AM. Dress code is coat and tie for everyone.  Also, we will need a member of our Council to escort our members to the Degree.  If you are available, please let me know.
3. Free Throw Competition 1^st or 2^nd Weekend in February – Ken is working with the KofC Brothers at St. Bridget.  We think we can have the free throw on the 1st or 2nd weekend in February 2009.  Ken will confirm the date and work to coordinate with Holy Redeemer Gym. If you are interested in helping Ken Brooke ( k2brooke@yahoo.com) plan this event, please let us know.
4. Southern Catholic lecture 2/5/09 – On 2/5/09 Dr. Jeremiah Ascroft, president of Southern Catholic College, will be coming to St. Benedict to talk about Trends in Catholic Higher Education.  Jim Cartella is coordinating the night, and it will be open to the parish community.  He is looking for help
5. Mardi Gras 2/21/09 – We will be helping out with food and drinks at Mardi Gras event.  Ang Sampona will be providing more details shortly and looking for volunteers.  Please mark this on your calendar.
6. Fish Fry 2/27, 3/6, 3/13, 3/20, 3/27 –  I have received the prices for US Food, and not unexpectedly they have gone up from last year, but it does not seem to be a significant increase.  I have been working with the Women’s Guild to plan the weeks, and Karen Esz spoke with Fr. Paul and we agreed to keep prices the same this year, especially based on the current economic situation. We will be using the proceeds to support Habitat for Humanity again this year.  We also decided to make the 2^nd Fish Fry on 3/6 a theme night.  This year we will be doing a 60’s theme, and hopefully this will be as successful as last year when we did the 50’s theme for Fr. Paul’s birthday.
7. St. Patrick’s Day Party 03/14/09 – We are hosting the parish St. Patrick’s Day party again this year.  Ang Sampona will be providing more details shortly and looking for volunteers.  Please mark this on your calendar..
8. 4^th Degree Exemplification 4/25/09 at St Francis de Sales Church in Mableton, GA -- This is open to any 3rd Degree member who has been a Knight for at least 6 months.  If you are interested, please let Lou and I know.
