Membership News:  I am pleased to announce that Mark Stanley has joined our Council.  He attended the 1^st Degree at St. Monica’s this past Monday.  Also, Joe Losurdo completed his 2^nd Degree last night.  Congratulations to both Mark and Joe.

 

We will be hosting a 1^st Degree next month, May 18^th.  This has been a great year for growing our membership, but please do not let up.  We have 2 candidates that have been read in (Patrick Spring and Tom McGrath) who will hopefully be able to join us on the 18^th.  We also have the Fraternal Benefits and Information Night next weekend (more on this later) to draw in more men.  Please keep talking to our fellow Catholic gentlemen about the Knights.  Remember, they will need to fill out a form 100 and be read in at a meeting.  There are extra forms in our mailbox at the church.  If you do not have any extra, let us know and Lou will get some for you.

 

As reported at the last meeting, Jim Cartella was recognized by Supreme as one of 100 Family of the Month submissions they select each month.  Jim and his family received a gift from Supreme to recognize his contributions.  Congratulations, Jim!! 

 

I have selected Michael Turchin as the Family of the Month for March, 2009.  Since joining the Council last fall, Michael has been an active member of our council at meetings and events.  He has already completed his 2^nd and 3^rd Degrees, and has agreed to represent the Council as a delegate to the State Convention next month.  Join me in congratulating Michael for all his hard work.

 

This Sunday is Devine Mercy Sunday, and Ken Brooke has planned the Devine Mercy Sunday Prayers & Benediction at 2:00 in the Church.  Please join us.

 

The weekend of April 25^th and 26^th, we have 3 very important events happening:

1. Knights of Columbus Information and Fraternal Benefits Night
1. This is evening being planned by Andrew Martin (andrewdmar10@gmail.com  ) and Joe Noa (jnoa@bellsouth.net). 
2. The purpose of this is 2-fold.  First as way to provide information to prospective men and their wives about the Knights of Columbus.  Second, for us members to learn more about the many benefits available to our members.  This will be an opportunity for Joe to talk about all the available benefits, not just the life insurance. 
3. Please plan on attending, with your wife it possible, to learn about these benefits. Also, I ask that you bring a prospective Knight and his wife to meet the members and learn about membership
2. Vidalia Onion Sales
1. The onions will be coming in on the 25^th, and Greg McGrail and Mark Von Plinsky will start our sales after all masses this weekend. 
2. We will again be selling 10 LB bags of Vidalia Onions for $10.  Please let Mark or Greg know which mass you will be able to help out at.
3. Pancake Breakfast for the Ultrasound project
1. As we have been talking about for the past few months, we will be hosting a pancake breakfast to raise money to place ultra sound machines in high risk pregnancy centers across the state
2. Bob Dukes (bdukes@enercon.com) is chairing this event.  He will be looking for volunteers at the meeting to help set up, cook, serve, and clean up. 
3. Work will probably start around 6:30 AM, and go all morning.  Please let Bob know when you can help out

 

At our May business meeting, 5/4, the Nominating Committee (John Meurer, Bob Dukes, and Rick Ooten) will be presenting their slate of officers for the upcoming Fraternal Year.  If you are considering becoming and officer or committee chair, please contact the Committee.  We have uploaded on our website 2 documents that describe the responsibilities of the Council Officers and Program Chairs.  We will also accept nominations up to the elections on June 1^st. 

 

In May we will need help with the following activities:

1. Mother’s Day Roses
1. Mike Stapleton has ordered the roses and prayer cards we will be handing out this year.  He will be looking for help on Saturday May 9^th to tie the prayer cards to the roses.
2. Please plan on helping out after the Sunday masses to hand out the roses to all the moms
2. Breakfast for Music Group
1. The last weekend in May, St. Benedict will be hosting a traveling youth choir on their way to Florida.  They will be singing at the Saturday Mass and the 8:45 Mass that Sunday. 
2. Fr. Paul has asked the Knights to prepare breakfast for them that Sunday for them and their host families.  Nick Marrick will be chairing this.  Please keep this day open on your calendar.

 

Reminders: 

1. If you ordered council shirts, please bring your check to the meeting. 
2. Baseball Game:  Greg McGrail is gathering information for going to the Gwinnett Braves for a game this summer. 
3. Blood Drive:  Rick Ooten, with the help of Steve Campbell and Andrew Martin, will be looking into having the Knights take the lead in Blood Drives at St. Benedict.  Support for this has dwindled, and they will be looking at ways to boost it’s support.
4. 1^st Degree Team:  We have a few openings on our Degree Team for Aides to the Warden and alternates for the Grand Knight, Deputy Grand Knight, and Chancellor roles.  This requires memorizing the parts, and being available if Joe, Ken, or Bob (respectively) are unable to attend a scheduled degree.  If you are interested, please let me know.
5. All Council officer and program chairs are listed at the end of this email, along with their contact information.  Please refer to this list, as some emails have changed over the course of the year.

 

 

Below is the calendar of events for the remainder of the fraternal year, and the contact list of officers.  Thank you for all your hard work this year.  So far as a council we have volunteered nearly 1,100 hours in support of 32 events.  This is a tremendous accomplishment.  Lets keep the momentum going as we close out this year, and prepare for the next one.
