Our next meeting is this Monday, February 2^nd in the PLC. We will have food at 7:00 and the meeting will begin at 7:30 PM. At our last meeting we welcomed 4 new members to our Council. Join me in welcoming Joe Shaginaw, Jose Perez, Jack Wilson, and James Barkett.

Our busy part of the year is getting ramped up. This month we have Dr. Ashcroft from Southern Catholic speaking on 2/5, RSVP donut sales on 2/8, our Council Free Throw Contest on 2/14 at Holy Redeemer, the Mardi Gras event for the teens on 2/21, and the first Fish Fry on 2/27.

In addition to the events listed (more information is below) I will be presenting a proposal to amend 2 sections of our Council By-Laws concerning the Relief Fund and Building Fund. They will be read at the meeting, and copies will be mailed to all members. I plan to have the vote at our March Business meeting on 3/2/09. These changes, if approved by the Council, will change how we handle our savings account and ability to support our Brother Knights in their times of need.

Starting this meeting, we will be selling the State Charities Raffle tickets. The tickets are $5 for one and $20 for 5. The recipients of the State Council’s portion of the drive are 50% to Graceway Recovery Center and 50% to Pregnancy Recourse Center of Douglasville. The prizes are $5,000, $2,500, and $1,000. Also, the Knight who sells the winning tickets will receive a cash prize ($500, $250, and $100 respectively)

Invoices for Council dues have been sent out; please get your check to Lou Coroso as soon as you can. The dues go to pay various Supreme and State Per Capita fees and help cover many council expenses. You will not receive your new 2009 membership card until you have paid your dues. If you have any concerns about this, please contact Lou at (770) 623-4498.

Here is a quick summary of our other upcoming activities:

Guest Speaker 2/5/09 at 7:00 PM – Dr. Jeremiah Ashcroft, president of Southern Catholic College, has graciously offered to come and speak to our council and Parrish about “The Trends in Catholic Higher Education”. Jim Cartella (cartella1@earthlink.net or (678) 417-1669) has done a great job planning this, but needs your help to set up the PLC, get the snacks ready, clean up, etc. If you are able to help out, please let Jim know.
2nd Degree at St. Thomas the Apostle in Smyrna 2/7/09 – There will be an Exemplification of the Second Degree on Saturday, February 7th, 2009, to be hosted by St. Thomas the Apostle Council 12386, at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 4300 King Springs Road, Smyrna, GA 30082. The Second Degree will begin promptly at 10AM in the Social Hall. Candidates should arrive by 9:15AM and should be accompanied by a member of their council. Observers should be in the chamber no later than 9:45AM. If you are a 1^st Degree member and interested in attending, please let me know.
RSVP Donut Sales 2/8/09: We will be selling donut after the Sunday morning masses to raise funds for our Seminarians Ryan and Ronald Conklin. Please help Mike Foutch out by sticking around after mass to help sell the donuts.
Free Throw Competition 2/14/09 – We have a definite date of 2/14/09 from 10:00AM to 12 Noon at the Holy Redeemer School at St. Bridget. Ken will need 3 or 4 Knights to help with registration and scoring. If you are able to help out, please contact Ken Brooke at 404-542-2445 or k2brooke@yahoo.com
Mardi Gras 2/21/09 – We will be selling tickets for this event and bar tending the night of the party. Angelo is looking for volunteers to help sell tickets, and to work a shift serving bar. Please let Ang (kasdf@aol.com or (678) 521-7625) know if you are planning on attending, so he can reserve the right number of Knights Tables.
Fish Fry 2/27, 3/6, 3/13, 3/20, 3/27 – With Lent right around the corner, we are gearing up for our Fish Fries. I will be taking an inventory next week, and will prepare our first order with US Foods. Please mark these dates on your calendar, and let me know which Friday’s you will be able to help out.
Habitat for Humanity 3/7/09 – I have signed the Council up for the 3^rd week, Saturday March 7^th, to go down as a group to help out with this years house. I found out that they need a lot of help week 3 on so if you can’t help this day or want to volunteer another weekend, please contact Daryl Worley (747driver@bellsouth.net). I will start passing around a Sign-up sheet at the meeting. According to Habitat's schedule we'll be finishing the siding and starting the painting both inside and out
St. Patrick’s Day Party 03/14/09 – We are hosting the parish St. Patrick’s Day party again this year. Ang Sampona will be providing more details shortly and looking for volunteers. Please mark this on your calendar..
4^th Degree Exemplification 4/25/09 at St Francis de Sales Church in Mableton, GA -- This is open to any 3rd Degree member who has been a Knight for at least 6 months. If you are interested, please let Lou and I know.
