Dear Brothers,

 

We had an excellent turn out for our meeting on Monday night held at the American Legion Post 251 in Duluth. We has 32 brothers in attendance and several honored guests including our past District Deputy and now State Community Director Stan Rapciewicz, 4 past Grand Knights of our Council and several recent 1st Degree Knight of which this was their first meeting!

 

Here are the notes from our meeting on Monday:

 

-          Meeting opened at 7:15 PM by GK

 

-          GK offered thanks to all brother Knights who are helping to sell Christmas Cards after mass. It was mentioned that we need to make a special effort to support the Sunday Evening Hispanic Mass with Christmas Card sales as well.

 

-          GK offered thanks to Ken Brooks for coordinating the Memorial Service last Monday night.

 

-          Form 100’s Read and Voted On:

-          Upcoming Degrees:

o   First and Second Degree – November 18th at Council 660 – Buford Highway

o   First Degree - December 14th at St. Monica’s – 7:00 PM

o   Second Degree – December 12th at All Saints – 9:00 AM

o   Third Degree – January 23rd – at St. Monica’s - TBD

 

-          A thank you card was read from Southern Catholic for our donation to support the family of the Knight who recently passed away

 

-          On Wednesday, November 18th  Angelo received a phone call from Staff Sergeant Thomas Eddy thanking the council for the donation of goods and cash to help defray some of the shipping costs to Afghanistan. Sgt. Eddy would like to thank the council and is coming home for the Thanksgiving holidays so I setup the 8:45 mass on November 29th to stop and shake his hand and give him an opportunity to say thank you. So mark your planners to try to attend 8:45 mass on Nov 29th.    

 

-          Congratulations was offered to the 5 members who attended the 4th Degree Exemplification - Patriotism - on Saturday, November 7th!

 

-          Congratulations was offered to Jamieson Cannata who became a full member of the Knights of Columbus in the Third Degree at the exemplification in Conyers recently!

 

-          Our Knights will be helping with the St. Benedicts annual Christmas concert on Saturday - December 5, 2009 and 5 – 6 brothers volunteered to help with the hospitality after the concert including:

o   Bill O’Neal

 

-          Stan Rapciewicz provided information on a Special Olympics / Camp Inspire Gala to be held on February 12th, 2010. More information coming – Angelo is coordinating

 

-          Father Paul has asked for help in setting up the Christmas trees for the church. Jamieson Cannata, Ryan Bertrand and Tim Place volunteered to help and will be contacting our building maintenance engineer Catfish in the next few days – target set days are Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday of next week.

 

-          Angelo is driving a meeting this Thursday night with all of the ministry leaders of the parish to plan and confirm the financial support needed by each ministry for the Parish Family Center under construction.

 

-          Mike Turchin reported on car raffle project and details being finalized

 

-          Our coordination with St Monica’s regarding working the concession stand at UGA home games was discussed and the importance of meeting our commitments. We are again providing support for this Saturdays game and have several members signed up. If you have questions or would like to help please contact Mike Turchin at mturchin@bellsouth.net.

 

-          Four of our council’s past Grand Knights we honored with a plaque for their support and leadership. These include Joe Noa, Ken Brooke, Bob Dukes and Patrick Gannon. Thank you for your dedication!

 

-          Our Financial Secretary, Lou Coroso confirmed that the annual dues statements for 2010 will be ready to send electronically in the next few days. Please look for an upcoming email with a form attached which will allow brothers to complete the form and pay their dues by turning this into the K of C mailbox at the church or by bringing to a meeting. This will save our council postage and processing time. For those brothers who don’t take advantage of this new option, regular dues statements will be sent out following the email process.

 

-          We will hold our Annual Council Christmas Party in the PLC on Sunday December 13th, from 2 – 4 PM. Santa Clause will be arriving to see the little ones so please mark your calendars and RSVP to Mike Dawkins at mikeandjill@mac.com.

 

-          Meeting closed at 8:15 by GK – Everyone retreated to the American Legion Post bar and a good time was had by all!!!
